Description
Drayton Hall Plantation, established in 1738 on Charleston's Ashley River, is the only surviving colonial plantation house on the Ashley River. A forced labor camp, the plantation's indigo and rice crops were worked by enslaved African Americans. The plantation house remains to the present day and is undergoing an extended period of restoration. Pictured is the plantation house in black and white.
